PORT ARANSAS, Texas - The TxDOT Ferry System connecting Port Aransas with the mainland is operating very short handed at the moment. A combination of scheduled annual maintenance inspections and unexpected breakdowns reduced the number of ferry boats to two yesterday.
According to reports, all the ferry boats should be back in service late next week. Additionally, ongoing repairs at the ferry landings should be complete by Spring Break. In the meantime, you should strongly consider using the JFK Causeway on the South end of the island.
Use the Port A Ferry Cams to monitor lines at both landings. The Port A side looking E and the Aransas Pass side looking N offer the best vantage points.

Hi Keith. WOAH! Glad I wasn't on my way! I usually don't go the ferry route to Port A though. I like driving over the SPID and smelling the air as soon as driving in.....reminds me my vacation has officially began! KM
KM...I think that is the quickest route to and from SA. I go that way as well.
UPDATE - Five boats are back in operation with the sixth boat coming back later this week. Operations are getting back to normal.
