PORT ARANSAS, Texas - The Newport Dunes Golf Course has been open for over a year and has been a popular addition to our community. Cybergolf.com has just published a a great review of the course.
"It's also the perfect spot for a true links-style course, a vision that Arnold Palmer Design Group turned into reality with Newport Dunes Golf Club. Weighing in at 6,821 wind-swept yards from the tips, the par-71 track meanders through sweeping, untamed native dunes and offers spectacular views of both the Gulf of Mexico and Corpus Christi Bay."

PORT ARANSAS, Texas - What began as an opportunity presented by the Texas General Land Office in 2002 has finally come to fruition. The 1,200 acre Nature Preserve at Charlie’s Pasture is open and offers residents and visitors a new way to explore Mustang Island.
“It’s a chance for people to walk into nature,” said Joan Holt, the University of Texas Marine Science Institute’s director of fisheries and mariculture who helped develop the birding sites in the preserve. “People of any age and ability can get a view of an area not a lot of people could get to before. I think it will be used a lot for enjoying nature and sunsets and, of course, bird watching.”

PORT ARANSAS, Texas - The January 2010 issue of Golf Digest includes the annual review of the best new public and private courses. The Newport Dunes Golf Course on Mustang Island made the top ten. This news will not come as a surprise to the many golfers that have enjoyed playing a round on the new seaside links masterpiece.
The Arnold Palmer Signature Course opened in September 2008. "Being here and seeing this course has aroused some enthusiasm in me I hadn't felt for a while. I can't tell you that I've enjoyed playing any golf course any more than I did this one. This is a fantastic setting." ~ Arnold Palmer

PORT ARANSAS, Texas - Earlier this week an algal bloom that is commonly referred to as red tide was plaguing portions of the Texas Coast. The National Seashore and northern sections of Padre Island saw the worst of the conditions. On Thursday, the red tide extended to the southernmost section of beach in Port Aransas. As the Corpus Christi Caller Times is reporting, a well-timed cool front arrived and had an immediate impact.
Sunny skies and afternoon highs near 80 degrees are forecast for the next five days.

PORT ARANSAS, Texas - And they're off! The 23rd Annual Harvest Moon Regatta began this afternoon just off the Flagship Hotel Pier in Galveston. Over 200 boats have set sail for Port Aransas. It is always a beautiful sight to watch the arrivals at the harbor.
They will be joined by those opting to drive to the island for the MustangFest 2009. As the South Jetty Newspaper put it, "Mustang Island will live up to its name this weekend." The Ford Mustang festival will take place at the Island Moorings Yacht Club. The car show begins Saturday at 1:00.
Should be another great weekend to be in Port A.

PORT ARANSAS, Texas - Tony Amos has been caring for injured and ill animals since the early 80's. The Animal Rehabilitation Keep (ARK) was started when, in the course of his research, Tony began to find sea turtles and aquatic birds on the beaches and in the local environment.
The ARK of today specializes in marine turtles and birds of the South Texas coast. The mission is to rescue and rehabilitate animals and return them to the wild.
Today's Edition of The Austin American Statesman features a story on Tony's work and the ARK in Port Aransas. Read the article in Statesman.com and watch a preview of the documentary "Leaving the ARK" which is being produced by an Austin filmmaker.
Our community and the island environment are a much better place as a result of Tony's tireless efforts.
